Livingston Dems Gathering Aug. 11 for Convention

Livingston County Democrats will gather Aug. 11 for our county convention -- a key step for Democrats in preparation for the Michigan Democratic Party's statewide nominating convention.

The county gathering will be at the Howell Carnegie Library, 214 W. Grand River in Howell. Registration will be at 10 a.m., with the convention beginning at 10:30 a.m. Please enter through the rear doors of the library.

The main business of the convention is to consider resolutions for possible inclusion in the party's statewide platform, as well as choosing party members to serve on committees for the Aug. 25-26 statewide convention. That's the convention where party members will select a lieutenant governor nominee as well as officially nominate already-endorsed candidates for attorney general, secretary of state, and Michigan Supreme Court. Nominees for state education boards also will be chosen.

Resolutions to be considered at the county convention must be emailed to livcodems@gmail.com by Friday, Aug. 3, at 5 p.m. so they can be photocopied and prepared for the convention's consideration.

The committee positions to be filled at the convention include a female alternate to the Credentials Committee, one female member of the Platform and Resolutions Committee, and one male member and one male alternate to the Rules Committee. If you would like to be nominated for one of these positions, please email the party at livcodems@gmail.com by 5 p.m. Aug. 3 so that we can be sure all the committee positions are filled.

c. Rules Committee – one male member, one male alternate.

A Commit to Vote canvass will follow the convention, as well as a phone bank from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at party headquarters, 8028 Grand River, Woodland Plaza Suite 7, Brighton.

NOTE: To be eligible to vote at this convention, you must have been a member of the Michigan Democratic Party as of July 11. Precinct delegates and those whose memberships expired after July 11 may renew the day of the convention.
