Michigan lawmakers are putting the finishing touches on next year’s budget and Livingston County Democrats will have a chance this week to hear what it means for working families.

Local members also will hear from the leaders of two petition drives aiming to put proposals on the 2018 ballot to shut down a controversial oil pipeline underneath the Straits of Mackinac and to legalize marijuana.

Speaking on the state budget will be Democratic State Rep. Donna Lasinski of Scio Township in Washtenaw County will speak. Lasinki, who was elected to her first term in the Michigan House, is a member of the leadership team of House Democrats, serving as the caucus’ Strategic Communications Chair. Lasinksi is in her first term representing Michigan’s 52nd House District. She is a former member of the Ann Arbor School Board.

Jeff Hank of East Lansing will speak on the petition drive for the proposal to close down Line 5, as well as the marijuana legalization proposal.

The meeting will be Thursday, June 22, at 7 p.m. at RE/Max Platinum Auditorium, 6870 Grand River, between Brighton and Howell. Attendees are advised to park in the back of the building, use the rear entrance, and take the stairs or elevator down to the auditorium.

The party’s regular executive committee meeting will follow the speakers.
